Biggest acquisition in gaming history: MS to buy Activision Blizzard…

Microsoft with the biggest acquisition in the history of the gaming industry. Microsoft has confirmed that it will acquire Activision Blizzard, a gaming company, for $68.7 billion. The transaction is valued at Rs 5,12,000 crore or Rs 5 lakh 12,000 crore in Indian currency.

Division Xbox and Activision have announced plans to work together for future games. Microsoft says in a statement that it will become the ‘third-largest gaming company in the world by revenue’ once the deal is finalized. It will be next to Tencent and Sony.

Activision Blizzard is the parent company of Activision, a US-based video game developer that has inherited iconic titles such as ‘Warcraft’, ‘Diablo’, ‘Overwatch’, ‘Call of Duty’ and ‘Candy Crush’. Activision is very popular in the gaming sector because of the titles and the regular e-sports activities that it does.

The company currently has studios around the world and has about 10,000 employees. Following the acquisition, Bobby Kotick will continue as CEO of Activision Blizzard. The company will continue to operate as usual with a focus on accelerating business growth. Activision Blizzard Business reporting will be for Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming.

Indications are that Microsoft wants to make big strides in the smartphone gaming segment with Activision Blizzard. It even hints at bringing games like ‘Hello’ and ‘Warcraft’ to mobile phones. The mobile gaming segment relies on Activision’s previous success with mobile games such as ‘Candy Crush’.

Additionally, Microsoft is looking to expand its acquisition of gaming titles under the Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass. In a post on the Xbox website, Phil Spencer says the company will try to bring ‘as many Activision Blizzard games’ as possible within two subscription services.
